On vs In

These prepositions are tricky business as there are no set of formulas to explain the usage. My wife explained about these two prepositions so I thank her for that. I never knew this before.

Fire Engine

Although a truck is called lorry in British English, they have a different naming for this firefighter vehicle, after further reading it appears that the term fire engine is also used in the US (according to wikipedia)

Truck

I used to work for a truck/lorry sales company, the difference between the US and the rest of the world version is the bonnet (The nose of the truck). One thing that is also different is the steering wheel one is on the left and the other is on the right. That makes it also driving on the different side of the road.

Mom

Besides the difference in writing, they celebrate mother’s day on different days. UK is usually on  the fourth Sunday of Lent (18 March in 2012) while the US celebrates it on the second Sunday in May (Info: wikipedia).

Something Crispy

crisp versus chipsI decided to follow up the English vs english post to add more spice to this blog besides idioms.
